Two cards featuring the same character are not necessarily the same version. A short check helps you choose the copy you actually want. Use both the product photographs and the description: each adds useful information.
Start with the card's identity
Record the card name, set and full card number. Then check the language, artwork and any particular finish. Where these details appear varies by game and release. For Pokémon, the official card database can help you look up cards.
Keep the full number on your search list. Remembering only a character name makes it harder to find the exact same version later. If you collect a particular set or language, put that preference at the top of your list.
Look at this particular copy
Read the stated condition and inspect the front and back when photographs are available. Look at corners, edges and visible surface wear. Reflections can hide details: ask for clarification or another photograph when something is unclear.
Separate the features of a printing from the condition of this copy. A description of the artwork, for example, does not tell you whether the back is damaged.
Read the label on a slab
Check that the label's card details match what you want to buy. Record the grader, grade and certification number as listed. If you collect a particular combination of card and grade, compare like with like.
A quick check before reserving
- Is this the correct set and full card number?
- Do the language and artwork match my search list?
- Do I understand the condition and what the photographs show?
- Do the price, protection and shipping fit my budget?
Keep your questions with the card you are considering, so Chroma can help with that exact copy. Explore the collection or start with the difference between raw and graded.
